Printable Word Search Maker builds a new puzzle in your browser every time you ask. You choose the words, the grid size and the difficulty, and you get a clean sheet ready for the printer, with the answer key on a separate page.

How the puzzles are made

• Placement: the longest words go in first. Each word tries random positions in the directions your difficulty allows, and the search backs up and tries again when a later word will not fit.
• Filler letters: the empty squares are filled with a mix of letters from your words and the rest of the alphabet, so the hidden words do not stand out.
• Checks: the grid is scanned in all eight directions so each word appears exactly once, and a short list of rude words is kept out of the random letters.
• Honest results: if a word cannot be placed, it is listed above the preview with the reason. Nothing is dropped silently.

The same seed and settings always produce the same puzzle, which is why share links work.

Free to use

You are welcome to print the puzzles for personal use, classrooms, clubs, care homes, parties and newsletters. The site may show ads in the future to cover its costs. Ads never appear on the printed sheets.
